We'd love you to join us at Core Church this Sunday! On these pages you'll find information about who we are, when and where we meet, what our services are like, what we offer for young people and more. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to get here and enjoyable when you arrive.
On Sundays we normally meet in the afternoon at Bowerhill Village Hall in Melksham, Wiltshire, but during the coronavirus pandemic we are meeting online via Zoom. As Christians, meeting in the afternoons helps us to make the most of Sunday as a day of both rest and worship, but we have also found it makes it more likely that people we invite to church will be willing and able to come. Doors open at 4pm with the service starting at 4:30pm and lasting for about an hour, followed by another half-an-hour for people to stay and chat.
We lay out the main hall for a café-style meeting with everyone sitting around tables. This makes it easy to break into groups at any point during the service, allows us to keep any resources we need close at hand, and means that we can enjoy the refreshments (tea, fresh coffee, hot chocolate, fruit juice, mineral water, cakes and pastries, sweets and fruit) that are available throughout the meeting.
Our teaching services are Bible-based, either drawing lessons from a specific passage or applying Scripture to a particular issue to help us understand God's perspective. Our aim is to learn on Sunday and be changed for Monday. To find out what we're currently learning about visit our what's on page.
Core Kids, for children in pre-school and primary school, have their own session in the village hall's two meeting rooms. When children reach secondary school we leave it to them to decide when they want to switch from Core Kids to the adult meeting. We have a soft play area in the main hall so that babies and very young children can be cared for without anyone having to miss the service – the occasional tears and wailing don't bother us, it's just part of life!
Love – we're a group of ordinary people who've come to realise just how much God loves us. Now we want to help other people find out how much God loves them. That's what Core Church is all about. Jesus said “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35) We want people to look at Core Church and say “those people truly care about each other, I want to be part of that.”
Accessibility – have you ever been to church and felt like you had no idea what was going on? Have you ever taken a friend to church and then wished you hadn't because the service was completely inaccessible to them? We aim to create an atmosphere where everyone can feel comfortable and to present Christianity in a way that everyone can get to grips with.
Acceptance – we want to be a church that accepts everyone and aims to help everyone gain God's approval through faith in Jesus. We believe that the purpose of life is to be in a relationship with God - as Jesus put it, God is “our Father in heaven” (Matthew 6:9). We believe that the only way to have a relationship with God is through his Son. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).
Adoption – the Bible says “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 1:5). Just as God adopts us into his family we want to adopt you into ours. When a child is adopted it's the adoptive parents who are making the commitment, not the child, so we believe that when you join Core Church it should be us who make the commitment to you – the commitment to welcome you into our family, to care for you, nurture you and love you.
